Committed to preserving and promoting the Islamic faith, heritage, and cultural values of Ethiopian Muslims. Al-Amin fosters a vibrant and welcoming community rooted in the Islamic principles of brotherhood, equality, mutual assistance, compassion, and service. Through educational, social, and community-building initiatives, Al-Amin seeks to strengthen faith, support families, and inspire future generations.

The Meaning of Al-Amin
“Al-Amin,” meaning “The Trustworthy,” was one of the most honored titles given to our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ because of his honesty, integrity, and noble character. More than 1,400 years ago, when the early Muslims faced severe persecution in Makkah, the Prophet ﷺ instructed a group of his companions to seek refuge in the land of Abyssinia (present-day Ethiopia). Welcomed by the righteous king, An-Najāshī (the Negus), the group were granted protection, dignity, and the freedom to practice their faith in peace. This historic act of compassion established a lasting bond between Islam and Ethiopia—one rooted in justice, hospitality, and mutual respect.
For the Al-Amin Ethiopian Community Center, this name reflects both the noble character of the Prophet ﷺ and the rich legacy of Ethiopia as the first land to offer sanctuary to Muslims. It also honors the enduring connection between Ethiopia and Islam through Bilal ibn Rabah (رضي الله عنه), the beloved Ethiopian Companion of the Prophet ﷺ and the first Mu’adhin (caller to prayer), whose unwavering faith, devotion, and sacrifice continue to inspire Muslims around the world. We strive to honor that legacy by building a center dedicated to faith, education, service, unity, and community for generations to come. Through educational exhibits, community programs, and welcoming spaces for worship, learning, and reflection, the Al-Amin Ethiopian Community Center will preserve, promote, and honor Islamic values for generations to come.
